Dread

Finally! This guy gets it. So, like, remember when I was dubious of the AIDS epidemic a while back? I said towards the end of that post that the concept of passing AIDS as an epidemic was merely a tool to bring about a desired moral change in our population’s behavior.

Well, Philip Alcabes goes into more detail about other epidemics (and explains these matters much better than I could) and how they...Well. Here. You can look at it on amazon. Look inside the book and check out the first pages.

I’m getting this as soon as it comes out in paperback.

Application turned in

Well, I’ve mailed my application for GEPIK (Gyeonggi English Program In Korea). If I’m lined up with a school soon, I’ll be leaving the US (again) within a month or so. We’ll see what happens.

Storytelling

“I don't know about what happened... because once you start writing, it ALL becomes fiction.”

- from Storytelling, directed by Todd Solondz

I just saw this movie the other night and just...really found it profound. After watching it, I’m thinking that I don’t need to write anything in this blog anymore. Unless I want to change it to fiction in order to say something true.

Breaking the silence

Well, I guess it’s not really breaking silence unless you like to read this blog out loud.

Anyway, it’s been a while since I’ve written anything. But I think I’d mentioned somewhere in a post of recent yore that I didn’t want to write about any plans I was making until they came to past. And I guess, really then, I shouldn’t be writing anything now. But, like, this seems to be actually happening so I may as well write about it.

So like, I’ve been preparing an application to teach over in Korea. This is for a program like the JET Program that I did in Japan. If accepted, I’ll be an ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) in a public school (by the sounds of it, a middle school or high school).

I won’t go into it much now until after I’ve at least sent in my application. I’ll be doing that early next week. I’m waiting on a few documents to be sent to me. Once I get those, I’m mailing the application.

I guess the reason I feel comfortable writing about this is that the recruiter I’m working through has already notified me of an opening. I’ll find out about it next week.

Once things solidify a bit, I’ll write more.
